EGR

Do any one know what the EGR diaphragm is made of is it Rubber or metal, notice at the other end of the turbo is another small pipe on another diaphragm but i can not find any pipes that would fit this
any ideas any one

I would imagine that the EGR diaphragm would be metal due to it's hot exhaust location. The diaphragm on the turbo takes a pressure signal from the turbo air outlet and opens the exhaust wastegate via a linkage when the boost pressure gets too high.

Thats what I would of though but been warned that some diesels could be high temp rubber/latex, i will be spaying some EGR cleaner into the area want to make sure its not rubber as this stuff will make the rubber go pasty and sticky.

I'm still a bit confused over the exact nature of the problem. The EGR valve and the turbo waste gate are two independently operated items. Many diesel owners make a point of disabling the EGR valve one way or another because of the tendency to clag up the engine air inlet side with oily carbon goo.
What are the symptoms that make you think the turbo is not working?

Needle not moving and lack of power, it did work for short while while doing 50 for around 10 second on Friday the turbo system is clog up with deposits been using the normal cleaning additives to help clean it, think thats why it work for whole of 10 seconds, the blades are turning but just not fast enough

Turbo wastegate stuck open? The rod linkage that comes out of the diaphragm 'pot' holds the wastegate shut via a spring when at rest. Does the wastegate external lever turn freely?
What engine are we talking about here?

2.1 92 xm engine TD. I not seen yet as i am about to go under the car now, there seems to be a very minor oil leak maybe from rocker cover maybe from turbo not sure of yet

got the needle up to half way now doing 50 but but dont hold there, pretty sure now it just clog up

To me it sounds more like the wastegate spring on the turbo has weakened due to age and many heatcycles. You can shorten the actuator rod to compensate.
