Declaring SORN

Post by CitroJim » Sun Jun 15, 2014 10:53 am

I've now taken the XM off the road and taken it off insurance cover (transferred to the C1).

As cars have to be continuously insured and my XM is now not should I declare SORN?

Also, should I now cash in the tax disc or can I leave it and perhaps sell the remaining tax to an new owner?

Thanks!
Jim

If you're going to sell immediately, then a SORN maybe isn't woth the trouble. At least the excise tax plus somebody's insurance should make a test-drive legal! Good luck with the sale, Jim.

Hi Jim

Cashing the tax disc on the sale of a car becomes mandatory later this year.

Change in the last Budget as I remember.
New owner must obtain new road tax from date of purchase.
Chancellor gains 2 months road tax on virtually every car sale.
