Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

S reg Black V6 Exclusive for sale

Post by Charles M » Mon Jun 30, 2014 6:21 am

Bought from Patrick Rugg last summer. 93000 miles, black exterior and black leather interior. Since having it I have had both front ABS sensors and inceptor rings done, replacement aircon condenser and regassed, blowing very cold. New centre and front comfort hydractive spheres and front height controller sorted, rear spheres date from March 2013. It has tax until the end of July and full MOT until May next year, with no advisories. The coilpack, spark plugs and plug leads have also just been changed. It has 4 matching Maxxis tyres all in good nick, one brand new and one alloy refurbished, the rest in decent condition. The drivers window has a replacement mechanism fitted by Paul, the switch connection needs cleaning so isn't currently operating. Both headlamp bulbs are new GE 120% so you can see in the dark and the boot locking mechanism has been overhauled. CitroJim has checked operating temperature and car runs fine. New battery.

A recent inspection to check for a rattle on lock (nothing consequential) revealed the o/s front jacking point to be corroded and the entire sill seam corroded too, so will need replacement. I am not prepared to sink any more time and money into this car, so I have decided to list it for sale at £500. If it hasn't sold by the end of July I'll scrap it, having removed as much as I can.

Hi Charles,
It was sad to hear you are parting company with the car and especially after all the work that has been done. Hopefully she will go to a good home and surely much too good to scrap! I had similar work done on one sill of my 1991 24v that was not too expensive.
All the best of luck with the sale.
With regards,
Matthew T.

Marc - Renard had it picked up last week, so it is now in the Netherlands awaiting a gearbox, brakes and driveshaft transplant, all of Nard has at reasonable prices. The disc exploding took a big gouge out of the chassis too. It will hopefully be ready for end September.

Me.

I don't really want to get into the ins and outs of it, but I was not prepared to allow the garage who did the original disc brake replacement to touch the car again, even if they accepted liability, and without them being given the chance to fix it, I have to pay. Nard's gearbox is in much better condition than mine, which would have needed an overhaul anyway, so I am getting all of this done for the price of an overhaul. I am not happy, but I almost had a breakdown myself when the car had its own, and I only want a proper specialist being fully responsible. In short, for my own welfare (I was so shaken up by this - had the brake gone at speed I would have had a serious accident on my hands) I am moving on and not fighting.

Because I have had so many issues with cars they will be sold, the only classic I intend to keep is my SM, the newly fitted ECU and injection have turned it into the most stunning car that I now consider the best car I've ever owned. I had a blissful three days with it before this nastiness. When done I shall happily demonstrate it to the world, it is that good.

Collected and paid for 23 hours after the first call.

Then, amusingly, a chap came to collect a bespoke hifi I had for a W124 Mercedes estate. Chatting to him, it turned out he also owned a .......Gold Citroen SM. What are the odds of that?

Charles, it's 50%. Either it happens or it doesn't.[emoji1]

Back in high school we had some thought experiments with a classmate about how the world would look like if all probabilities were 50%. But it didn't work particularly well...
