New ish - xm 3l 24v article

Off topic chat about anything you like. Doesn't have to be about XMs (though they will inevitibly come up!). You can even discuss non-Citroens :o in here!

Enjoyed that article Vince :D

Loved this bit:
redheaded step-child of the Citroën family

I'm assuming a reference to some Pug 605 genes diluting the pure Citroen ones...

I remember reading this one a while back and quite liking it- balanced and fairly complementary without being gushing. :D

I actually read another one a while ago which I'll try and find/post which although very much in favour of our beloved XM, seems like it was written by someone who doesn't actually know how the car works- a bit of mythologising going! It's an amusing read however.

Here's the one I mentioned- some errors within, but an amusing and fond eulogy!

Some very interesting reading there.... Especially the 'troubled mixed up metalled' 2.0 engines.

I thought it was interesting that the Honest John team had purchased an XM for their classic stable. Should mean good things ahead for the model.

That car was brought back to the UK by Phil Chidlow (Citroenesque), then sold to Nigel ??? who then sold it on. It made a couple of appearances at CXM and is a very nice car.

"And then there’s the DIRASS power steering – a modernized version of famous DIRAVI. It is speed-sensitive, getting progressively heavier the faster you go, but there’s absolutely no feel in the helm."

The author got his definitions a bit mixed up I think. DIRASS is the simpler/cheaper power assisted steering we got in the UK (Citroen were too mean to fit a RHD version of DIRAVI for UK XMs) whereas DIRAVI is the more sophisticated full power steering system which evolved from it's earlier CX application.

I think the car in the article is an ES9 V6, which did have DIRASS, I suppose Citroen did sell it as an "improvement".
