1991 V6 in Euro spec

Post by casalingua » Mon Sep 22, 2014 9:24 pm

Hello all:
I have my eye on a 1991 V6. It is a Euro market version which means it has the DIRAVI steering. That is marvellous. Less marvellous is the V6. Is that V6 the horror I suspect it is - or is it a matter of cambelt changes and checking the head gasket? Does anyone have any input on this? The reason I might be looking at this is that my wife hates the prospect of driving a UK model in Denmark because the steering while is on the "wrong" side. I found a champagne gold metallic V6 in Dormagen, Germany for a modest €1200 with about 110,000 miles on the odo. It even has the nice alloys seen on the promotional literature (which my 2.0 has). The other downside is I suddenly might have a spare car with nice new paint, generally good maintenance standards but some underbody rust a leaking pinion valve. Too good to throw away, costly to fix and impossible to sell here!

A 1991 V6 will be just fine. The cams are chain driven and the PRV engine is well tried and tested.

In your situation, I wouldn't think twice.

Hi: thanks for that. What does the long list in xmexclusive´s post mean?
What should I do with the existing car? It seems far too good to scrap. Would it interest a UK buyer perhaps - the spec is fairly rare, I think: 2.0 litre with the SEi trim. Weren´t most cars either above or below this leve: V6s with everything or 2.0 litres in Si trim (cloth, no aircon)?

The list is the engine modifications in production, by RP number.

The PRV engine was in production for about 20 years, so I wouldn't worry about a few mods fairly late on.

What age or RP is the car you are looking at?

Is your car a 2 lite N/a or turbocharged?

Petrol XM aren't worth a lot in the UK. I'd be tempted to keep it for spares.
