 .. Knowing my luck, no one else will ever have this issue. I am going to swap all the pillar switches tomorrow. See if that works. :)

More than anything, now with darker evenings, it doesn't help not having lights as you can't see where you put the bloody ignition key!

Actually, they are in parallel so even if one fails, the rest should behave...

I have found the fault with the interior lights, and fixing it was easy, but really the issue is still there. :|
Jaap was correct in suspecting the boot switch. What has happened is at some point the original switch has been bypassed and another little one added. When I was replacing the little trim cover for boot latch on the sill, I think I found this second switch unplugged, so re plugged it and well it seems to be the problem. After playing around with door switches this afternoon I noticed that when the boot light was on, you could open all the doors and the lights would work fine.... Not touching the ignition at all. But close any door apart from the drivers door... Leaving that open, it switches off the puddle light on the drivers door and interior lights fade out. Odd. After a while it all stops working and you need to open the boot again.

Anyway I unplugged the boot switch and all is restored, completely back to normal. So there is clearly some odd wiring somewhere.
What I also noticed is the Electrovalve still doesn't seem to open and close when you open any of the doors. But it does when ignition is on. I do wonder if there has been some tampering when the alarm was fitted. Anyway, the suspension is soft when driven and the interior lights work when a door is opened. Some normality restored!

Valet day tomorrow. Got to get it looking good for the weekend. :D

Well I have a little update on insurance and my old XM. The grey XM has now been scrapped. So thats not taking up space in the garage anymore. Very sad, but thats life. Cant keep a crumpled shell. I actually scrapped it myself, rather than letting them do it..... there was no way it could be fixed without major structural work on jigs ect. and that would be extremely expensive. So it is no more. ;)
We have settled on a price for it. £1438.50 to be precise. much better than the first price of £70... and the improved offer of £150. I sent a very curt letter and two ads of two similar XM's to prove that £150 was insulting and that they were doing nothing to put me back in the position i was in before the accident, it wouldn't cover buying a new car, let alone a new XM of the same or similar condition. Anyway the settlement has paid for Robs XM and some more. I got the cheque Monday..which was a surprise, so it was swiftly banked after some thought yesterday. :)

But there has been a twist in the tail of this accident. Another car was involved which i had no clue to at all. Apparently the Fiat Scudo van I hit...sorry ...was forced into  , hit another vehicle. It could only been a small bump by then though. The Lorry who technically caused the accident is disputing liability. Saying it is the white LDV van who cut him up. To be fair I believe him. anyway its going to take longer to solve who is at blame for the whole thing. Going to be an interesting outcome there....

On other things, got home from the XM25, double parked and unloaded the car, and then went to move it. It wouldn't start, doing its trick on me like last month. Until it had cooled down it finally did start. So clearly when it gets hot it plays up. I have found the starter mod, by adding an extra relay, but i think i might also change the ignition switch too. If all fails then, I have a good starter motor to pop on.

Otherwise all is fine with MOR. I have painted the window caps and its had a new front bumper all sprayed up too. Just need to properly finish the clear coat on that to get it really shiny.
The glove box has been swapped and now has working strut and catch. So nice to have the lid glide up. 8-)
The lid to the fusebox however did break its hinges on Friday morning just before leaving for XM25. So that was held in place with duct tape, until Monday when i replaced it with my spare. So all fixed there.
I also have curious fault. Last week I went to do some Citrobatics and tried to put the selector into low. nothing unusual about that. It wouldn't go in to low.... the selector i mean. Thought its the plastic rubber gaiter dislodged. Put it all back, still wouldn't go into low. The gaiter was hitting something in the groove of the runners...right in the middle. I couldn't see what it is and couldn't dislodge it. So i had to resort to cutting a slot in the middle of the gaiter tip. It now works fine and you wouldn't know. But odd. It must be a screw head or something. Really strange.

And the interior lights are still working and the electrovalve is doing what it is meant to. So not touching that boot switch again!

Thanks guys. I'm happy with the price. I could have really dug my heals in and asked for more, but just wanted it all sorted really. I don't think they were gong to budge any more either to be honest. I have the whiplash claim yet. Three words.... Loss of earnings...

Paul don't worry... I made sure to follow your example. Although I failed with the rear glass quaterlights... Sorry.
It was a curt letter. They wrote back trying to smooth things over. It didn't wash!

Quarter glass removal is VERY tricky! and takes some time to do!

You know at the weekend, id completely LOST all memory of your unlucky time with your XM and the lighting issue with the current one!

I dont know where my time goes at these rallies!!
