And the actual external dimensions of the C5 and the XM are...?
The photos above a bit misleading, with XM on its knees, and both camera angles.
You're right, though . . . Almost every model of car seems to get bigger as time/versions go on - even the Fiat 500 (not to mention the 500L), let alone Fiesta, Astra, Twingo...

Very true. Its bad enough getting an XM in a supermarket space, let alone a C5 or anything bigger like a new Range Rover.

Here you go Chris....

XM - 4708mm long / 1794 wide* / 1393 tall (MK1 this is for)
C5 - 4779 long / 1860 wide* / 1451 with hydractive - 1458 without

* Width is without wing mirrors.

So XM is a tad smaller unsurprisingly.

Just 6-7cm all over then. Wonder how the internal space compares? (Hope no-one will feel the need to fill each with water to find out...)

With the XM, it still surprises me to come back to a parked one - especially next to a high pavement or kerb - and realise just how low the roof is, compared to other vehicles. Climb inside, though, and it's all very spacious and welcoming, even for four. Bit like a basement Tardis.

All this shows rather well when it comes to wind resistance - a real air slicer!

Thats the disapointing bit.. the c5 sills are wider each side then the xms both put together.. the upper parts under the door bottom I mean.. then theres these large looking cubby holes on the outside which are then tiny when opened. Ill take some pics if any one is really interested..

What brings it home a bit. The C5 is clearly the stronger car round the passenger safety cell.

A desktop traffic-jam! Love it!
Outside cubby holes? Some pics would be interesting.

Amazes me how big, fat, heavy and ugly and complicated they keep making modern cars. CX is about 3 inches narrower than the XM and you can put it through gaps in traffic that an X7 or C6 simply can't go. Anyone would think we were driving around on American highways not through the villages and towns of the UK, through narrow lanes and past parked traffic.

And you can reverse park a CX with ease. And there's plenty of elbow room, shoulder room, leg room and stuff. And it looks better. What on earth are modern car designers playing at?! Just pack it in and start making CX's again Citroen!

Rant over.

Ok Matthew but only if they all get Diravi with 2.5 turns lock to lock :D . And they get rid of that ridiculous auxiliary belt and tensioner on the 2.5. And a good old fashioned piston either side of the front brake disc that can be simply pushed back when changing pads. And a turbocharged PRV :D
