Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi

Post by White Exec » Sat Nov 29, 2014 8:13 pm

Just read this week that R-N have signed a cooperation agreement with Mitsubishi over new models and developments. One step closer to a handful of global conglomerates, looking for survival.

Explains why one of our neighbours, ordering a new Qashqai, is dealing with the Mitsubishi dealership, rather than the Renault dealer opposite!

PSA had a Mitsubishi Tie up for a short while, we got the C-Crosser/4007 4x4 from them... but that stopped when that Eira of Mitsu Outlander changed shapes....

Dont think PSA carried on with them, so R - N want to take them on. I think its Mitsubishi who are looking to expand in Europe. Lets face it, they are the smallest in Qty in Europe of all the Japaneese imported cars... arent they? Except their 4x4 thingys...

Mercedes were using their four cylinder derived engines, but have dropped them and switched to Renault units for engines below 2 litre, both petrol and diesel.

L.J.K. Setright famously said, that in the future three will only be three car manufacturers left and one of those three will be Morgan.

Wise old sage. A year ago a friend lent me his (now rare) copy of Setright's 1974 hardback "Bristol Cars and Engines". An amazing read.
I understand he was also an admirer of Citroen, but I've never managed to find anything written by him on our marque.

Interesting to speculate who the "three" (or thereabouts) might be. My guess would be one Japanese, one German/European, and Lots of Chinese. Or maybe globalisation will make nonsense of national manufacturing boundaries. Except for the Chinese, of course...

Not sure a japaneese company could make it alone.. most need european tie ups to continue..

mazda have ford
nissan have renault
suzuki has gm
mitsubishi is trying to find another parter. .

I guess that leaves toyota
subaru specialise in rally and 4x4 cars and arent exactley massive

I believe he used to write for CAR magazine years ago. He was very complimentary of the XM and loved Citroens in general.

I would agree with that list Paul, Toyota would most likely be the only one left.
Mazda aren't really with Ford anymore... Or Ford has a very small ownership of them at least.

Toyota and Subaru have a tie up now. Albeit on the GT86.

It depends on how you define what the last three manufacturers would be... Look at VAG group, is that considered one manufacturer... They have VW, Skoda, Audi, Seat, Lamborghini, Bentley, ect ect.
