Re: A very sad day ...
Hi Paul
Thanks for the offer but I think its beyond economical repair, short of cutting out the surround and replacing it there is not enough good metal to weld to and the rest of the car looks as though its heading the same way. The sills are OK because I have put oil in them every year but the rear arches are going. If you are interested in taking it one come and have a look at it.

Very sorry to hear that Peter, hopefully someone will either want to fix it, or it can donate generously, making the best of a bad situation.
Do you still have the red estate?

Hi Ciaran
No, sadly that went a couple of years ago at the same time as the green one that my wife demolished the bus shelter with - terminal rust. The the body on the green one was quite good but unstraightenable unfortunately. I had my first XM in '96 so this marks the end of an era.

I remember the accident in the green one but didn't realise the red one had went as well, that's a pity Peter.
You'll have to keep your eyes peeled for a tidy 2.1 estate!

Re: A very sad day ...
I got £420 scrap for the two, collected by a firm from Pool, more than enough to pay for my first C5
I don't suppose they are worth that much now.
Although I think the XM is a very nice car, second only to the CX , the C5 is better on fuel and much cheaper road tax and is easier and cheaper to maintain. If money was no object I would certainly have another XM but unfortunately we are trying to live on a pension.

A pal of mine is after a diesel XM estate, he restores classic cars so a windscreen surround shouldn't pose too much of a challenge to him. How much would buy it?

Re: A very sad day ...
Weld repairing the windscreen surround of a Mk2 XM has particular problems.
Both "A" pillars are filled with expanding foam after the wiring and sunroof drain tubes are fitted.
Think it is virtually impossible to clear this for arc welding.
