They do when networked into average speed measurement over sections of road. The new ones here log both speed and reg numbers, issuing automatic fines. Even some several years old can generate thousands of tickets a day.

We have average speed cameras, called SPECS, but they aren't used as ANPR for checking legality and vice versa.

All recent speed cameras here are now ANPR, automatically issuing a notification of fine and points by post, which includes a time-stamped photograph of the car. Had to happen, and it has.

Just wish they'd be quicker to jump on the still large numbers of non-Spanish cars which are in daily use by folk who live here permanently. Most of these vehicles are untested, untaxed and probably uninsured. Police roadside patrol cameras fully equipped to give the low-down within seconds on Spanish-plated cars, but obviously not able - yet - to read plates from other EU countries. Roll on that day.

Heavens, there are only two XM SEi Turbos on the UK roads - mine and someone elses! 4 SORN. Can't believe it's only one of two!

Although to be fair according to the site there was a peak of 49 of this model back in 1994 so not exactly common 20 years ago :P

Hi all, the average speed cameras came live on the A9 between Inverness and Dunblane on 28 oct last, a 135 mile stretch. A centre page spread in the local Strathy in interview with Police Scotland answered all our questions, YES they do monitor avg speed between cameras, set 3 miles apart, NO they do not automatically generate fines. The data is still sifted by operatives in the control centre and manually processed for prosecution. Due to the huge amount of data ,sections are switched off sequentially, of course we are not informed which or when. The cameras are supplemented with unmarked & marked cars to cover entry and exit of dual sections. Also mobile cameras on dual sections, the position of these are required to be publicly notified, and a list appears in the Strathy weekly for our area.

Dieselman wrote:Q3 - 2014 figures now published on Howmanyleft.

Total XM:
on the road is 447
Sorn is 570.

This quarter sees 18 lost from the road and 5 lost from SORN, so total losses is 23.

Annual attrition is 96 Taxed, 69 additional SORN, total lost is 27. Remarkably low, but I suspect these additional SORN cars are Series 2 now coming off daily duties.
Q4 - 2014 figures out.

420 Taxed
612 SORN

116 Series 1 Taxed
304 Series 2 Taxed

These figures include Northern Ireland now, where there seem to be a few, especially SORN.

I think the real annual attrition is about 90, so still running at 19%.

This could also be showing cars being tucked away for the winter period? Not many in NI though obviously.

The number taxed went down by 26 from Q3, but the number SORN went up by 42, due to the NI inclusion for the first time.

Holy cow, knew it was rare, did'nt know it was that rare  , saying that the XM is currently in the garage SORN'd at the moment, giving it a heavy mollycoddling session, it is being well kept, preserved and looked after though so you cant always write off SORN'd cars when looking at figures.

Agree that it's a bad move by Citroen to stop supporting cars over 10 years old, you can even judge this by attempting to by parts from a main dealer (i was asked what an XM was when i phoned to order a temp sensor  ), also when i visited the dealer no one (sales staff or mechanics) batted an eye lid, never mind "f*ck me there's an XM"

In contrast when i ordered bushes from BMW for my E38 750IL BMW a minor fuss was made over it when i visited the dealer to collect the bits, BMW has it's own heritage museum and you can still buy new parts for 70's models from the main dealers.
