Replacements are now yellow and solid like an engine dipstick.

Rob I'm just going to put my geek hat on again for a minute, at first glance you seem to have the fully electronic Bosch engine management the same as mine with a coil pack and ignition amp in place of a coil and dizzy, I did notice though that you seem to have a separate coil and dizzy ht lead setup, does it have a dizzy under the plastic bag?
This is odd as the xm had fuel injection with mechanical ignition from magneti marreli, Bosch was the only fully electronic system and yours................isn't. I wonder if someone has converted it back to a dizzy for some reason?

Wasnt the dizzy and coil setup used untill s1.5 revision by chance dean?

I think all tcts were wasted spark but .. im only hazarding a guess .. the 2.0i kept dizzy untill 1992 revision..

of course though your the real 2.0i geek. Ive had little to do with them except my first was a G plate 2.0i

I also note that robs still has the original Earth plugs at the inner wings donating a genuine unmessed S1 car and not an early s1.5 .. most likely on K plates. I had a J reg 2.1 td . also a s1...

You are right Paul but Robs is Bosch and there for fully electronic wasted spark etc, magneti with the big flap style AFM was injection with dizzy, it was one or the other, the Bosch was brought in to be euro whatever compliant with fuel vapour capture and fully electronic so why is it fitted with a dizzy, it shouldn't exist, there was no reason for it too.
The thing that's catching my eye is the ignition amp, fair enough, but with a dizzy? It makes no sense, both components do the same job!

Psa dizzy cars had an amp chip.. the v6 s do too. On the bx the amp was on the back of the dizzy.

prehaps the car has had a complete replacement engine at some point?

I know normally the iorn block is as tough as a derv but we never know..

Engines are identical, I could put a carb and dizzy on mine which is one of the last 8v's it could be a very rare crossover experiment thingy?
Build date 12th April 1990 so a fairly early car, earlier than the plate let's on that's for sure, only a few months newer than goldie which at a guess I would say has magneti?

Yours was magneti with the air flap though surely?

If not then that means Citroen were fitting 3, maybe 4 engine management systems to the 8v all at the same time, all with different emission standards in the same country? A little odd.........
