Great - good to know it's possible to get the value. Did you get it valued? Our did you manage to show the value from say, classified adverts? Just wondering because I find the area of not-quite-classic cars' value a bit of a concern

I used classified ads, fortunately for me there were some strong prices about then, and laying it on thick... Oh and just saying no it everything they offered till I was happy. I now have insurance with agreed value.
It is a cuspy area these cars, not quite old enough to be real classic cars, although classic insurance is available...and still young enough to be considered just an old car.

Best advice if you ever get a stupid value...put the phone down on them! The thing that really made me really see red, was the fact the young girl that was dealing with my claim thought I would be happy with £75. I know it's standard practice to offer low initial price, but that was insulting and totally out of touch with real prices.

Well done, Russ, for hanging in there and getting something acceptable. Despite all the consumer rights legislation now in place, it now seems almost routine that large companies will rip off their customers. A real thuggy, "loads-a-money" ethic (I use the word loosely), that has its roots with M.Thatcher and her gang.

Latest manifestations include the energy companies, and today's (long overdue) quizzing by UK Parliament of the price comparison websites, who are obviously not acting in anyone's interests except themselves and the companies who pay them. Been obvious for years. Steer well clear of the lot.

Meanwhile, down here, with the price of crude oil still falling, the oil companies are attempting to wind UP the pump price. They have to be joking.

"Non illegitimi carborumdum"*, as they used to say.

Rant over.
Well done, you! :|

Cheers Chris! Mmm. Nothing is transparent anymore...if it ever was.. Feels like it has got worse.

You have to be joking, they want to artificially rise the price of fuel?! MADNESS!!

That is very good news indeed Russ and well done for hanging in there! When one of my cars was 'written off' I eventually agreed a value of £1,100, so I think you did well to reach £1,400. Although I think they are worth more, for insurance purposes all my cars are valued at £1,500. All the best, Matthew T.

Thanks Matthew, I too have the mandarin valued at £1500. I couldn't get anymore out of them, as they 'allowed me to keep the car'. Anyway I am happy with the result. They warned me that if I was to fix it, it would need a rigorous MOT test to allow it back on the road.
It was scrapped by then.. Which they knew... Because I sent the scrap certificate. Nice to know they can read!!!

I have mine insured for £3000 and £2000, iirc. I would hold out for a decent payout, especially on the Mandarin car.

It's always remembering that companies have costs per hour, so an elongated claim is costing them more. Eventually they will make the right commercial decision and pay up for low value claims, which these are.

Great move Russ, i remember changing to the single spoke wheel when i picked the car up from Paul, he changed it for me ready for the drive home. I wanted to have the full on first time xm experience....i still absolutely love the single spoke wheel. Its been years now but it still makes me smile :)

Nice that yours is the early red badge one too :P
