Many thanks for that Rob and I maintain Russek is a useful little book which contains many other helpful diagrams of the fuel injection and hydraulics for example. You can get your own copy here:

the concerning bit is he said it only had the faults since a front end smash? Anybody know anything?

Not sure about this but the engine did apparently come out for new clutch that might explain the damaged wiring.

It still puzzles me why the engine came out for the clutch as there was nothing wrong with the clutch when I sold it either! It was about 2 months later he emailed me saying it was in for a new clutch, and did I know where he could get a clutch cable.

I was under the impression that it was BL Auto's that did the clutch but when I was there in the summer with my Activa they hadn't seen the car. I'm now under the impression that it was Brodie's that did the clutch.

Apparently someone untrousered a previous owner about 2k for work on the car, I'll be buggered if I can see where this was spent in view of the mahoosive list of faults on the car!

On and the clutch is really,really aheavy which I would usually associate with a badly worn clutch.

Here's the science bit....as the clutch wears the self servo action of the diaphragm spring in the clutch pressure plate diminishes as it goes past its centre point causing the clutch to get heavier. Think of a lid on a jar popping up after being pressed down.

Dont go chargeing in at the clutch.. check out the nylon pivot arm right behind the air con compressor.. these can get a bit siezed and lead to one of the cables pulling out the holes..

That would make sense, that nylon thing Paul mentioned has been found to be the culprit for heavy clutches quite a few times.
