Poor Acceleration from Rest 2.0i turbo auto ...cont

Off topic chat about anything you like. Doesn't have to be about XMs (though they will inevitibly come up!). You can even discuss non-Citroens :o in here!

Hi,
I've not been able to give any time to this during the week due to work pressures which is why I went quiet.

Thanks all for your further sugestions, I didn't realy think I that I had fitted the timing belt wrongly but after speaking to so many people and with the symptoms I began to doubt myself. The timing covers are still off and I have rechecked the belt using Dean's excellent pictorial guide (thanks Dean) and all was spot on. I plan to ask my Citroen engineer friend to come and check it for himself before I re-assemble it. I will then book it in with him for a day and ask him what he thinks.

Thanks again
Chris

PS!
Thanks Paul for the offer to meet up during your visit to this area, I will see how I go in the period up to then and let you know...it might be a good idea to meet up anyway if you do come to Southport.

Another musing of mine was that up to 2 years ago we used to own a 1993 1.8 (single point injection) Zantia auto and I never thought that it was poor away from rest so I would have thought that this car should have been at least equal if not better.

Regards,
Chris

Woooo thats scarey!! You must mean another Paul!

I was about to sugest that Next Saturday 29th Aug, Im comming to Southport to collect a Moped for friends who have just bought one..

Ill be in A Black Xantia, but Ive got a 2.oi Turbo Auto here, so know how well they go, or should..

So if your not sorted by then give me a shout - because:

On my Turbo, I lost all power and was only getting a small amount of boost, so I assumed Turbo.. anyway, after getting under the car, I actually found that the wastegate securing clip had dropped off the wastegate actuator arm, so it was stuck WIDE open and not putting any boost into the engine... I fitted a temperay clip and hey presto sorted!

The engine is comming out though for fitment of a replacment due to a mysterious oil consumption it has!! Dont ask, Ive had all the questions and done all the checks, no blue smoke, not much of an oil leak... anyway, thats something else..

Regards
Paul

Hi everybody,

Talk about "eye off the ball"!

I've been very busy and have not even been here for days. The car is still waiting for me to replace the timing covers and get it back on the road. My local Indy called round whilst the covers were off and confirmed that the belt was fitted correctly, so I can finally put the timing issue to bed. He also began to raise the depressing subject of a possible de-coke due to the sort of previous use it's had. He knows i'm a big DIYer so he's not trying to drum up work.

Weather permitting I will be taking some time off next week to get the covers back on and the car back on the road.

I'm now a bit confused as to Paul & Paul???? and sorry I've missed your? visit to Southport.

Will keep a better eye on this string and let you know when it is back on the road.

Chris

Ah thats Paul - Mr citroenxm, thats me, in North Wales, and theres Paul - Minijet, can not remember off hand were he is located...

It will be something to do with the Turbo, either waste gate fully open, like I found on mine, or an intercooler pipe has split or popped off...

The intercooler pipe could be easy to detect, you'll have a good whooosh of air under bonnet of you flour her.. as the air escapes and does not go into the engine...

Hi,

Thought I'd just finish this post.

I had to lay the car up for 4 years due to some serious DIY and my wife's ill health.

Last June I did the work to put it back on the road, replacing the rear brake supply pipe and the Lambda sensor on the Cat. It was this that was causing the poor performance. You could hear the fault without driving the car, even just by blipping the throttle it would "pink" and occasionally run on after switching the ignition off. Replacing the Lambda cleared these symptoms.

Sorry for not finishing this one off!

Best regards,
Chris
