I tried K-seal on one of my V6 and although the treatment was not successful there were no ill effects. I guess it depends on how keen you are to spend the money and/or pull things apart! If it is any consolation Graeme at least there are only four cylinders and you have more space to work insitu. I can also confirm you should have no problem with new head bolts, which might not anyway need replacement. The exhaust manifold on the car should be easy to remove as I recently replaced the gasket and no bolts were damaged. All the best of luck with the task anyway and it is certainly worth the effort. With regards, Matthew T.

Thanks Matthew that's reassuring about the exhaust manifold side

Looking at the four petrol injectors: how do these remove? Are they fixed into the inlet manifold flange or are they fixed into the cyl head through the flange. Also what tools are used for them?

Everything else looks manageable. I'd be as well replacing the water pump and thermostat plastic housing too I suppose

Is the exhaust manifold gasket ok to reuse? If Matthew only changed it in the last couple of years

No use a new one, its not worth the risk, the fuel rail is held in with two 10mm bolts, pull the rail off, the injectors are not held in with anything other than O rings which can be tight. Don't take them out anyway, leave them in the manifold with the fuel rail attached, just unbolt the manifold whole meal.

I notice that the car isn't physically overheating- I thought it was inevitable that it would overheat with hg leaking???

Ah thanks Dean, I wondered if that was the case. I'm actually new to multi point injection. I used to work for Cummins diesel and those injectors were at times as big ad your hand! They were held in place with big torques and special tools. But that's train and truck engines...

More good news! Just realised the dealer service manuals I have don't cover the RGX/Y engines! They cover the 2.0 monopoint and 2.1 XUD I'm thinking the 2.0i engine is essentially the same as the 2.0 turbo? Would the setting of head bolt torques etc be the same?

All the specs you need are identical for all 2.0 xu engines, only the pistons and oil pump changed on the turbo, the block and heads are exactly the same bar pistons oil, pump, piston oil cooling jets and ancillaries, you can use a mono or carb manual, some 2.0i have the same ignition systems too

Cheers Dean, trouble is the manuals have everything except the procedures. I have the ' pocket mechanic' for XM diesel and turbo diesel. It's not great though.. I just need the UN tightening bolt sequence, whether the bolts need to be loosened all by half turns in sequence first, then need the correct tightening torques and angle for the bolts and finally whether I need to tighten- run to temperature- loosen in sequence by an angle then tighten to torque as is the case on some engines.
Why didn't I get a Haynes book! ( if it's any good..)

Undo 1/4 turn at a time centre front HB then centre back then outwards in an anti clockwise spiral, tightening is to 40nm the 180deg then further 90 as they are stretch bolts, I will copy the Haynes or photo it tonight once I've finished swmbo list for the day.

Haha cheers Dean, swmbo's list takes priority!

Oddly it's presently ticking over fine and not bubbling. It is however, oozing coolant out from the visible gasket under the exhaust manifold
