I didn't want to be defeated by a switch

, so I went ahead with the SMD solution. Contrary to my previous belief, it can be solved, if you place the LED and resistor low, there will be room for it. Because I removed the bulb wires, I had to solder in new ones. As I described in the write-up, it's possible but requires very quick and careful soldering to avoid any damage to the plastic parts. It's much easier with the wires intact. Definitely the trickiest one of the original bulb-equipped switches.
I'll make new pictures this evening.

Spent the day cleaning the Sahara off the XM today. It looks good from a distance, but there are defects that need sorting!
Nosecone is a mess and needs repainting. Yet to decide if I try it myself or get it done properly. Otherwise polishes up well.
Also found some composte.

Another one, the phone had obvious problems with focusing on a bright LED but it's good enough for the purpose:

Ooh Russ, very nice indeed, looks just as good if not better than your old flat pack one, lovely.

Gabor, that's a great fix on the one touch switch. I might have to send you mine to do!

It would be easier with a through hole LED after all. I just accepted the challenge to do it with what I already had.

Very nice car Russ. With all I see, I suspect I'm driving the least tidy-looking XM of the forum!
