Flywheel for 2.1TD EPIC automatic

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Flywheel for 2.1TD EPIC automatic

Post by dieselflosse » Wed Nov 18, 2009 6:30 pm

Hi!

I might need a new flywheel for my "automatized" 2.1 TD EPIC engine. I mean flywheel with automatic transmission. The combination is quite unusual in Finland.

Just send pm to me if you have flywheel available.

Presumably this isn't the same as a manual one, I've got one of those.

Peter,
It should be different for benefits of the EPIC system and the auto transmission, theres probably a TDC sensor that uses the flywheel as a position sensor like the HDi's and Later XUD engines with keypad immobiliser...

Im not sure if Auto's use the same flywheels as manuals, I guess not so the Tourque converter can be bolted to the flywheel

Hi Paul

I thought they probably were different, unless the torque converter bolts to the clutch holes, but as you know my knowledge of auto's is zilch

Hi!

It is totally different than with manual transmission. It is much lighter, practically made from plate. And the main difference between Bosch fuel pump end EPIC versions is the number of hollows on a circle (Bosch 2, EPIC 4). Those hollows tell the rpm info to the computer.

EPIC acts quite funny with wrong flywheel... Double idle, and stops the engine when rpm goes over 3000.

That then explains why my revcounter reads double after retrofitting the wiring to try to get it to work after ripping out the epic system and replacing with a manual Bosch system... :(

Hi Paul, I think I'm right in saying that the DERV flywheels are heavier than the petrol ones...
