My rear sphere came off a treat. Car left running, dropped onto the floor and regulator loosened to give full depressurisation. Removed all the clutter under the back end to give good access. Swift application of lump hammer to side of sphere. Pleiades tool strapped firmly on and off she came. Process repeated for front sphere. Floaty ride restored

Having survived many whacks with a chisel, I'm pretty sure this one isn't going to shift in a hurry. I'm sure they do sometimes come undone really easily - that's nice. However, as this one has a valve on it, I suspect it's been there even longer than it should have been.

One more tactic, probably by a workshop, would be to weld a large nut on to the sphere top, and then use an impact wrench to unscrew. Sphere mounting would need securing in place first, obviously.

A bit of heat applied to the valve seat area would probably help.
As already noted, be careful of bending the bracket and pipes. Removal and a vice may be the only way.

I've been waiting a long time for this. Finally driving my XM in France! Have found lots of other XMs - one within seconds of leaving the ferry port at Caen. It was escorting a British motorbike.
The drive from Caen to where I'm staying was a nightmare in the dark. The headlamps are dreadful, made worse by the headlamp adaptors and the French's lack of cats eyes.
However, found another XM in the nearest town.
Off to Le Mans today. Has to be done really.

I was told there are 37,000 XM left in France, but other than when new and when I went to get the roof, I've never seen another one.

Russ and I saw about ten XM on our eight day 2,000 mile drive through France in July and only half of that number were moving! Of course that total excludes the further dozen in Frederick's shed and on the driveway! Regards, Matthew T.
