2.5 fuel consumption - nice surprise

Off topic chat about anything you like. Doesn't have to be about XMs (though they will inevitibly come up!). You can even discuss non-Citroens :o in here!

But that's the point: no mind at all. Just drivin'. Granted, I'm not a boy racer, I prefer to go softly and comfortably, smoothness is more important than quick acceleration. But other than that, no thought about consumption at all. I could certainly go lower by carefully observing the consumption but I don't care. [emoji1]

On Fridays the M25 is usually solid from J7 - J21 and on the other side from J27 round to J3, the M4 from J3 - J10 and then Swindon, Bristol and Cardiff. And if you're heading north on the M1, M6, M40 and M42 then don't give an eta, you're wasting your time.

Assuming you came off the ferry at Portsmouth I would have gone M27 M3 A34 M40 M6 M74.

The trip computer (which is accurate) showing 43.7mpg, and an average speed of 66mph. Can't grumble at that! Within shouting distance of Peter's 2.1 50mpg achievements...

Setting off for Scotland tomorrow, but we're not expecting the very busy UK motorways to allow that sort of cruising. Full tank of best Repsol diesel on board, at €1.07 a litre, so that will help.
Well, we got home yesterday, and without a hitch. The 2.5 continued to really do her stuff, a good deal of it on motorways. A total of 3134 mi (5014 km), averaging 41.6 mpg at 45 av.mph. The tyres needed a bit of air for the return journey, and the engine 0.5 lit of oil. Nothing else.

Boarding a ferry back from Arran to the UK mainland (Brodick-Ardrossan), the ticket office man actually left his cabin to get an explanation, as he hadn't "seen one of these for a long time", particularly with Spanish plates. Congratulations were offered, and the Porsche which followed just didn't seem to attract the same attention.

Other Citroens on the way? Well, not a lot... (UK sightings in brackets)

Bit thin, really. We obviously have a job to do.

While in the UK though, did have a great evening with Rob cxprestigeauto in a Wiltshire pub. Did our best to attempt a rally in the car park. Two classes only, one S1 and one S2, but both in white!!
The winner, though, had to be the barmaid, who asked why we both had the same car. I think we just told her that all the best people do, but I can't quite recollect. Rob might even post a photo (of the cars, that is, not the barmaid).

We hadn't been to Scotland for more than twelve years now, and it sorely needed doing. Kintyre looked magnificent, and I hadn't been there for thirty years plus. Our spirits feel suitably renewed.

And what better car to do it all in?

Chris, glad to hear that you have made it back to sunny Spain.

Thank you for an excellent evening. Great company and good food!

Have fun with the radios and displays.

As requested a couple of snaps of our two man car show. We certainly cheered up the Volvo V50 driver parked next to us!!

nice looking XM, the white colour and body colour helps hide the headlight washers a good bit compared to other colours :)

Heres some vids of my economy but i do drive with it in mind most of the time and every other day a few red line gear changes to clear the exhaust out...

Average seems to be at least 800miles from a tank going up to 910miles as a record so far once :)

Great photos... :D
Sounds like quite a trip. I only saw 2 XMs over a fortnight in Brittany this summer and cannot remember the last time I saw one on the road here! :(

My daily commute is producing about 42mpg by calculation and 40mpg according to the computer... Average speed 34mph... 10 miles motorway, 10 miles A road and 5 B road.
I am quite pleased with it though perhaps a 2.1 should do better?

Getting better all the time but with winter approaching hard the MPG will drop, its now down to 48.2 thanks to days like today where a 35min trip was 75mins, mostly crawling along in first gear

Living right next to the motorway and having the office im currently at sat at the junction at the other end of the commute helps and i dont normally travel during the major rush hour times or get snarled up but there just seems to be a rash of accidents lately.

I've found not using cruise everyday helps as well, although sometimes she will sit more economically at 65 than 60 it is like she has moods all of her own like a proper woman LOL!!

I also dont have the small rad in the circuit so the charge cooler is a warmer at the moment as i dont need power and it helps warm the engine up that much quicker, the fuel supply pipe from the tank runs across the top of the rad so that soon gets warmed up quickly as well as its tucked out of any air flow then and the back box has been removed from the system as well :)

I bought a 2.5 estate to take on the Classic Challenge this year and I think I can safely say I didn't always hang about! averaged about 38mpg on that trip, as well as when I went to the All Ireland Rally the following week.

Commuting it's currently getting cabout 34mpg, but as I've managed to almost wear out the front tyres in 7000 miles, you can guess that I don't exactly take it steady.

I've just taken it off the road and I'm back in the SD Turbo so that I can hopefully stop the oil going in the water - more of that elsewhere on the forum.
