Interesting wiper phenomenon

Post by Ciaran » Thu Nov 26, 2015 3:29 pm

Three batteries later, the dear old Series 1.5 2.0i which has been resting for a few of years, finally came to life.

Whats interesting is with the engine running, both front and rear wipers run constantly, irrespective of switch position... as is the blower motor!

Amused me anyway :)

Sorry for the terrible camera / angles.

Lovely. Her way of telling you she's feeling neglected!

Odd that both FF and RR wipers are doing this. First thought is that the parking switches (which keep the wiper motor running until the park position is reached) on each wiper has got shorted, so motor keeps on running even though the main switch is off.

You should get out more often.

On a Xantia which had sat for a while, a constantly running rear wiper was due to condensation in the timer relay.

Too true! That green colour would look lovely with a shine on it!

Thanks guys.
Makes sense re the wipers, either the park switch or timer relay.

Yes it is very green isn't it
It does look like a nice car on the surface of it, but the bodywork is the worst I've ever seen on an XM. Don't know what the last owner did to it but its awful, there are holes the size of your fist inside the door skins, the sills are folded over (not even the jacking points!), and its just a mess everywhere. Really nice engine and gearbox though, it drives very smoothly. Think it will donate generously for my grey one...

Thing had a full MOT when it was parked, but it hasn't turned a wheel in 3 years.
