G743 UJA... Another one I've saved

Post by raynoon » Thu Dec 03, 2015 10:29 am

As soon as I saw this car I knew I wanted it.... The wheels, the colour, a very early series 1 2.1 SED. PERFECT!

Many Thanks to Chris, the previous owner for all the help he gave me during this very busy and difficult time for him.

So.... Here she is... A G reg 2.1 SED manual, she has an RP of 4873 which gives a production date of 13th March 1990, and registered on the 3rd May 1990.

Congratulations, Ray. It's good to see that this car has been saved from near-death.

What a strange feeling. Like seeing your ex out with another bloke. More space there. Ray does have the middle of the grille, I took it off during the hour's notice before the truck appeared as I didn't trust the bonnet cable. Maybe I should have kept it and done it up...

Edited to add that is the original rear plate, perspex plates were made well then. When I first viewed the car on a rough lot in Bolton the guy wanted 60k miles money but no history. I saw the dealer's name on the plate and called them to find from a nice lady that it had been well serviced but over 120k miles. Next time I wanted more info the manager said she shouldn't have told me this. Anyway, back in Bolton that led to me making a low offer to the sales bloke in a suit who took me into the portakabin to meet two gentlemen not wearing suits. Three against one with the door closed. I threatened them with trading standards, and said if I wasn't back at the girlfriend's parents on time then they had been instructed to call plod so violence wasn't the answer. We agreed a price, they pulled the previously not available service book out of a filing cabinet. Both buying and selling quite stressful, this car has some history.

Yikes, that's quite a buying experience! ...very brave of you Chris.
Well put it this way, it hurts selling it, but at least it is with an enthusiast and you know where it is. Better than becoming bean tins!

I realise now that I would have been beside myself. I was daft last night because I used my camcorder to take a picture of the truck as neither Ray nor I really knew the chap, then I watched it drive off before realising I had a camcorder in my hand. I then filmed the last 2 seconds of its near 22 years with me, turning onto the main road. Anyway, I don't want to hijack Ray's thread and will await his updates.

The engine running away is probably not the turbo, but the boost compensator diaphragm leaking.
