Quiz

I'm sure it won't take long for someone to guess the fault here.

My XM has over the last 7000 or so miles been developing a pull to the right which has become increasingly pronounced. The other weekend I identified and corrected the fault. What was it?

A tyre with a bias to the right. Other thoughts include a binding front caliper and a wishbone bush worn out.

It's funny, as I was typing it out I had an idea you would get it :)

The correct answer is a bad tyre; with the tyres swapped front to rear normal service has been resumed. I guess I should really replace it but with plenty tread and no real visible damage it's hard to get my hand in my pocket...

Are both front tyres worn evenly across and did you try swapping side to side.
It is possible there is a vehicle fault causing uneven wear, so a pulling develops, but tyres can have bias.

Both tyres completely evenly worn so I am fairly confident it is not a fault with the car. It was tyre I bought a part worn which caused the problem...

I suspect either a tyre manufacturing fault or some form of damage. Incidentally it also cured a low speed snatch to the drivetrain removing the tyre too so I suspect it is also out of round. I really should replace it.

I bought an XM with a pair of new Goodyear tyres on the front, the steering always pulled to the right until the tyres wore out and I changed them, perfect after that.
