Re: K-BAN has a new home
Bloody sunroof!
Fitted the cassette, and then conducted a water test... Everything was going great... Then the drivers side started dripping water. It seems the water is 'over powering' and by-passing the drain, it's flowing straight over the edge of the cassette and not dropping into the channel. Took the cassette out, placed it on the floor and conducted the water test again. It worked perfectly. Not a drop over flowed. Then looked inside the car and it seems the wiring loom is causing the problem. I can't remember where the wiring loom is supposed to sit, in conjunction with the cassette.
Hope you're still following?
I'm at a loss as to what to do next. Do I silicon the whole edge of the cassette? Do I drill holes to allow the water to drop into the tray quicker? I tried drilling a hole but the frame is made of aluminium.
I think I'll drill a few holes, seal the edge of the cassette with silicon, and try and seat the wiring loom correctly.

May I recommend Silkoflex 291 marine adhesive or something similar from their range? We use it on boats and wouldn't touch RTV sealants with a barge pole for longevity.

The wiring loom gores just outside the cassette, between the roof skin and sunroof support brackets.
Why am I not surprised it's still leaking.

So at no point does the loom get 'trapped' between the cassette and the roof? It seems this has been a problem for a while as the metal has become rusty.Dieselman wrote:The wiring loom gores just outside the cassette, between the roof skin and sunroof support brackets.

Re: K-BAN has a new home
My sunroof always leeked on the passenger side, when I looked years ago they had trapped the loom between the sunroof cassette and roof, water wicked out along the loom and dripped out above the passenger window, I dropped the cassette pulled the loom out and its been fine ever since.
Don't drill holes in it, ifitsput back in correctly it will not leak.
Russ! Hang your head in shame!!!!!

The nature of how the roof cassette collects water makes the roof rust at the edges of the reinforcement plate.raynoon wrote:So at no point does the loom get 'trapped' between the cassette and the roof? The whole idea is a disaster.
You did well getting the cassette back in on your own, how did you manage it?
