Just remember the steering wheel originally started on the left Paul!! That is a useful link to the gasket set, which helpfully seems to include the driveshaft and inlet manifold seals and is about the same price as I have paid. With regards, Matthew T.

Ive not been in the shed again this evening.

Follower and ballancer assembly, followers are all alloy

First look inside, this head was taken off first as its cylinders had the lowest compression (4.1-4.8-8.1bar respectively) and it looks good, im certain all the compression loss was due entirely to bad valve seats.

bad detritus buildup in the water jacket, the heds had to come off.

A quick wipe with a dry cloth on the piston crowns

The outcome so far from tonight, the crank pulley is toast, its cracked along the keyway slot right were the crank seal runs, oil pump is excellent, bores are excellent, no wear lip, no heav rust and hone marks still clearly there, piston rings are floating nicely and the water jacket is full of potentially catostophic crud.
Worth lifting the heads off.

Oh the bathroom, yeah.........progress is substantial and swift.........

This engine was about 60K i think, it doesnt have any wear on it at all so far which is good, it looks every bit a 60k lump, it is the later engine though so bigger pistons, shorter stroke and if the Citroen documentation if to be believed a different ECU to the early lump to get it to run, John informs me a early ECU on a later engine may not fire but thats a problem for when its in the car.

Bathroom does need to be done asap though and then get YOG home. its then saving pennies time to get parts.

That is good progress Dean and debris in the piston water jackets is to be expected I guess - mine was the same and needed a thorough clean. There is no mention of the head gaskets and I wonder how they were? The piston heads look identical to those on the engine I rebuilt that came out of a 'k' plate estate, so I wonder when the changes occurred? With regards, Matthew T.

That's a nice low milage... Plenty of life left in that. :D

I had no idea they changed the piston sizes and tweaked things in later models. I assumed all the 12v were the same.
