Re: My Citroen XM Prestige
Thank you all but thats enough of bathrooms, ive had a gut full of bathrooms for this year! back to the good stuff....
First port of call was to drain the gear oil, interestingly when i collected the engine the oil in the box was crystal clear, like tap water (dont worry it smelt like Dextron) but having been driven back nd shaken around the fluid has now turned brown, it would appear the extended layup of this engine and box allowed the crud to seperate out and sink to the bottom of the box so my advise when recomissioning any car is drain and change the gear oil before even thinking of starting it. I will have the chance to wash out and totally drain the torque converter too which is great, odd that two of the torque converter mounting bolts were rounded off but i cant see any other evidence the box has been off?. anyway, one becomes two

This next one is a proper halloween one, nothing worse than a leaking crank seal at the trans end! lips on all the oil seals so far have been like concrete so well worth doing.

Mmmmm yummy engine oil splatter

Here is one for Matthew, does your flex plate have a bonded nylon backing to it? not seen it on any of my 2.0i engines or turbo, the V6 engine also has a much beefier locating spindle on the centr of the torque converter with a pretty chunky nylon bushing.
Here is how the evening has ended, time to make a cradle for rebuild and sump access next, then cover all its delicate bits and get to cleaning, cleaning and more cleaning, i hate polishing Alloy but the end result should be good.

Here is an interesting one, the engine with one head on actually weighs LESS than one of my Bare long block 2.0i engines does, i picked the bare V6 block up and took it outside while i cleaned up, ive been working with iron blocks for too long, forgoten how light the alloy lumps are.

Nope wont be going anywhere near her until next week when we smuggle her over in a pile of firewood, looking forward to having a proper poke around, want to see if i can get her to purr on Petrol before the final destruction begins, i feel she should have one last hoon before i call in that donor card.

Yes Dean my flex plates and torque convertors also have the nylon backing and spindle bushes and it was good to see your further progress! With regards, Matthew T.Here is one for Matthew, does your flex plate have a bonded nylon backing to it? not seen it on any of my 2.0i engines or turbo, the V6 engine also has a much beefier locating spindle on the centre of the torque converter with a pretty chunky nylon bushing
