Re: Rare 3 litre 24 valve on Ebay from WHM
My understanding was that the previous owner did not appreciate the S1 24v clutch does tend to be quite heavy, since according to David H. the replacement was necessary and made very little if any difference. A sum of £2,000 could easily be spent with a specialist garage if the engine was removed. There seems no reason to assume that the 24v mentioned in the thread is your car since there are a few others around! Regards, Matthew T.

Re: Rare 3 litre 24 valve on Ebay from WHM
Hi guys, time for an update!
Nearly 2 years on and the ex WHM car still going great.I am still working my way through the bodges created by the vendor's rigorous maintenance regime but am getting there. The engine bay has now been detailed with all the clips, brackets and bolts re-plated to factory spec, all the black parts either painted or powder coated and the alloy components vapour blasted for that factory look.In the process of carrying out this work I have removed and re-built the inlet manifold, fitted new old stock throttle bodies and re-plumbed all the vacuum pipes as they were all connected incorrectly! I always thought it was a quick car but with all the vacuum valves now working as they should it really is very quick now.I can now feel the surge as each vacuum valve kicks in at certain revs,it's almost like a v-tech.I removed and had all the earth connectors re-plated and replaced the terminals on the end of the wires with stainless terminals so it will never suffer earth problems. One constant running fault was caused by the throttle position sensor and replacement with a NOS unit cured that.I also replaced all the relays and every sensor under the bonnet and the engine now runs like the proverbial swiss watch, very smooth and powerfull.Only has a slightly uneven idle which I suspect is wear in the timing chains as I've eliminated everything else.Next summer I'll remove the heads and give the engine a freshen up with new rings, grind the valves in and a mild gas flowing of the ports and obviously replace the chains and guides whilst I'm at it.I have also rebuilt the a/c compressor with parts from the states and replaced all the seals in preparation for a re-gas with R12....don't ask.Over the next few weeks I'll replace the alternator as it's now only charging at 12 volts under load not 14.5 as it should be.
Going back to the original question that triggered this thread the buzzing from the glovebox I replaced the indicator switch with a new item and it didn't really make a difference. It happens at random and can start or stop by switching something on or off.Sometimes it starts when the brakes are pressed or stops when they are pressed? This morning I had the radio turned up loud and the buzzing buzzed in time with the bass on the track I was listening to! A noisy relay?
Other work completed is to replace all the dash and switch bulbs,I hate it when something that should light up at night doesn't,I have replaced the radio with a good used original clarion unit, which I rebuilt with NOS belts for the cassette deck and replaced a couple of bulbs that were out.I replaced all the spheres with genuine citroen items, may need to repaint them as they are metallic grey now not green.
The list of work still to do is quite long, leaking sunroof so I will remove the headlining and see what that is all about, intermittant fuel gauge , fuel computer that is telling me I am doing 80 to the gallon at 70 mph, various rattles and squeaks, the rear suspension intermittently drops on its own despite having new spheres.I will rebuild the suspension with all new joints and bushes to cure a few clonks and knocks.
And when all that is done then I'll start on the bodywork........All good fun eh.

Earth connectors! Citroen's patent speciality! Had great 'fun' with them on my Ser 2 CX. Pulling off ferry in Santander, car started to boil......half way up a hillside in deepest Andalucia, at 45 degrees.....traffic jam in Chelsea......until I found out which connector to twiddle with!
I'll be over later so you can do mine (on the XM!) (-:

Re: Rare 3 litre 24 valve on Ebay from WHM
A few people just unbolt the connectors off the inner wing, fit ring terminals to the wiring and bolt them onto the studs but I wanted to keep the original look, hence going to the lengths of getting the connectors re zinc plated as per original. I suppose you could get them gold plated and I did find a place that could do it but it meant the car being off the road for about 4 weeks while they were done. The zinc plating place I use turned them round in 2 days. The stainless steel spade terminals I put on the wires were readily available off ebay and were thrompence for a big bag of them.A lot of a messing about but it looks factory.
And yes I do have OCD....

Re: Rare 3 litre 24 valve on Ebay from WHM
Its fair to say I'm addicted to the PRV engine,I've owned most things with one under the bonnet. My favorites are the 30TX manual, the Tagora SX and the XM! I do have a spare 24V engine (with ceramic followers) but can't decide which car to put it in.the tagora or the 30. I think the tagora with the triple webers on the 24V would be awesome!

Re: Rare 3 litre 24 valve on Ebay from WHM
I've seen the eBay £2500 engine, not worth it, didn't pay that for my XM 24V!
I paid £550 for my spare engine about 2 years ago and took a punt on it having ceramic followers which it did.
I think any 24V engines still running by now must all have ceramics so regular oil changes are the key. Mine has done nearly 140k and is still sweet having had the oil changed regularly. I change it every six months and use a genuine filter.
