Hi Exem

Had a look in a spare selector box this evening.
I see that the cables have similar end fixings that end.
I found that the selector box bottom cover was glued in place with 7 bend over metal tags.
How on earth did you remove this cover insitu with the exhaust in place?

Just had a look at the parts diagram and see your point re bottom cover under gear lever. I think the bottom cover is missing on my car!

Its all back together and working very smoothly. Thanks again chaps.
