In terms of the sill panel, we're pretty pleased with the quality of them. Unfortunately lots of little plates had to be put in before we could even think about attaching the sill at all as there were so many gaps where the original metal was joined.
It's on now, though, so that's *almost* one side done.
Honestly unsure of how the car got this bad. Like I say, it wasn't just the sills, but up inside the front arch as well. The worst of the rot is all on the passenger side, although a bit of digging yesterday revealed the front of the driver's sill and floor is also completely shot. That'll get addressed in a couple months' time.
I have a source for a full sunroof cassette, so that's not a problem. In the meantime I'm just taping around the seal to stop any more ingress.
If the car hadn't been so mechanically sorted, I wouldn't have taken it on to be honest.

I would try to repair every item that isn't right, spares for Xm are running out. Too many people still have the swap it and bin it mentality, which means everybody is going to run out of parts even quicker.nimspringus wrote: ↑Sat Aug 08, 2026 10:59 amI have a source for a full sunroof cassette, so that's not a problem. If people keep being parts jockeys on rare cars, including Xm, they will find out the hard way it was the wrong modus operandi.

Couldn't agree more. Romping through what spares are available, often replacing parts that aren't at fault because a diagnosis is incorrect is almost as bad as scrapping the whole car because something like an alternator is not available off the shelf. I have every respect for those that make an effort to repair or refurbish a part rather than bin it at the drop of a hat, just because a replacement is available at the time...Dieselman wrote: ↑Sat Aug 08, 2026 5:54 pmI would try to repair every item that isn't right, spares for Xm are running out. I'm all for this too. The entire car may have just been good for spares but rather than break it up (which ultimately, would have been the smart financial option) but I've elected to go through the process of saving it because it seems a waste not to. That being said, I've already given the sunroof a good look over, and it's pretty terribly seized , along with the screws which hold the glass being rusted to the point where drilling them out is the only option. I've removed and repaired the motor itself, which was also seized, but cannot get the cables to even think about budging. There's also what looks to be a nasty buildup of crust in the seams and edges which may also be contributing to the lack of movement.
I'm not going to bin anything if I can help it - once removed, I'll be taking the glass, trim pieces and anything else that can be salvaged. And hey, once it's out and I can strip it down, if I do manage to, then there's a chance I can refurb it into a working unit again and keep that aside for someone else.
